I want to feel comforted or consoled

There are days when life feels heavy—whether from loss, stress, or simply carrying more than my heart can hold. In those moments, I find myself longing for comfort, for that gentle reassurance that everything will be okay. Over time, I’ve learned that comfort doesn’t always arrive on its own—it’s something I can invite in by supporting myself with oils, breath, and small daily practices.

Essential Oils for Comfort & Consolation

These are the oils I reach for when I need to soothe my heart and feel embraced in peace:

  • Cypress – Grounds me and helps me release stored grief. It feels like exhaling after holding my breath for too long.
  • Frankincense – Brings a deep sense of spiritual connection, reminding me that I am never truly alone.
  • Helichrysum – My emotional “first aid.” It softens the sting of hurt and gently nurtures emotional wounds.
  • Neroli – Lightens the heart with a sweet, calming presence, like a soft hand on my shoulder.
  • Rose – Pure love in a bottle. It opens my heart and surrounds me with compassion, even when I’m struggling to find it for myself.

One of my favorite comfort blends is a simple mix of Frankincense and Neroli on my wrists or over my heart area or 2-3 drops the doTERRA blend Console in the diffuser at night. The aroma is like a warm embrace that helps me rest and restore. But even just inhaling Cypress from my palms can help me release and make my heart feel a bit lighter.

Heart Chakra Comfort Blend

I also love working with a Heart Chakra blend when I need consolation. It includes Ylang Ylang, Bergamot, Cypress, Wild Orange, Jasmine, Lavender, Marjoram, Neroli and Melissa, which encourage openness, compassion, and emotional healing. Using this blend helps me release heaviness and find a softer place within myself.

Beyond Essential Oils

Essential oils are a beautiful start, but comfort deepens when I support my whole self. Here are practices that pair beautifully with my essential oils.

Crystals: Crystals can be such tender companions when I need comfort. I often reach for rose quartz to remind me of unconditional love, amazonite for its soothing and reassuring energy, and green aventurine for heart healing and renewal. Sometimes, just placing one of these stones directly over my heart while I rest brings a wave of calmness and relief, as if I’m being gently held.

Sound & Music: Sound shifts me into a more peaceful state when my mind feels heavy or overwhelmed. I love the softness of gentle piano music, the grounding vibration of Tibetan singing bowls, or listening to 528 Hz frequencies, often called the “frequency of love.” These tones remind me to slow down and soften, allowing space for comfort to settle in.

Movement: Movement can also be rest. Poses like child’s pose or a supported heart opener allow me to release tension, surrender, and symbolically create space for comfort to enter. These restorative postures are simple but deeply nourishing, especially when held for several minutes with slow, gentle breathing.

Breathing Technique: I find box breathing especially helpful when emotions feel overwhelming. Inhaling for 4 counts, holding for 4, exhaling for 4, and holding for 4 again creates rhythm and steadiness. It calms my nervous system and gives me a felt sense of being grounded and safe.

Affirmations: Words are powerful anchors. I repeat affirmations like:

  • “I am held.”

  • “I am safe.”

  • “I am loved.”
Even whispered softly to myself, they offer reassurance and comfort.

Journaling: When emotions feel too heavy to carry alone, I write them down. Journaling gives me a safe place to release thoughts and feelings without judgment. Often, once I’ve poured my emotions onto paper, I feel lighter—as if my journal is holding space for me, so I don’t have to hold everything inside.

A Short Daily “Comfort & Calm” Ritual

This 10–15 minute practice helps me create a pocket of peace and reassurance, especially when I’m feeling tender:

  1. Essential Oils – I place a drop of Lavender and Roman Chamomile in my palms, rub them together, cup my hands 6″ from my face and breathe deeply three times. Lavender soothes and relaxes, while Roman Chamomile comforts the heart and eases emotional heaviness.

  2. Crystal Support – I lie down in child’s pose and place a piece of rose quartz or green aventurine over my heart. I let the weight of the crystal remind me that I’m supported, both physically and energetically.

  3. Sound & Breath – I play gentle piano music or a 528 Hz frequency track while practicing 4–5 rounds of box breathing. The combination of rhythm, sound, and breath brings me back to a place of calm.

  4. Affirmation or Journaling – To finish, I either repeat softly to myself, “I am safe. I am loved. I am held,” or I spend a few minutes journaling whatever is on my heart. Both help me release and invite comfort in.

This ritual reminds me that comfort isn’t something I have to wait for from outside sources—it’s something I can create for myself through small, nurturing practices.

Getting Started

What I’ve learned is that feeling comforted or consoled doesn’t come from one practice alone—it’s from consistently showing up for myself with compassion. Every essential oil, breath, crystal, or affirmation is an invitation to soften and allow my heart to be cared for. Try and find what resonates with you. Start small, just with one or two things but incorporate them with consistency into your daily routines.

Remember: Feeling comforted isn’t something we have to wait for—it’s something we can create, moment by moment, by opening space for peace and healing.
