Summer is here and so are mosquitoes, at least in many areas around the country, especially in Florida where I live. If you are like me and a mosquito magnet, you might want to take a look at an essential oil repellent blend. But first, have you ever wondered why some people attract mosquitoes more than others? Studies have shown the insects are attracted to sweat, lactic acid, uric acid, and octenol. When you are sweating you’ll produce more octenol, attracting mosquitoes. Blood type can also influence how likely you are to get bitten. Research shows that people with Type 0 blood are twice as likely to get bitten as those with Type B.

Before I discovered essential oils, I would purchase mosquito repellents but never liked the smell or feel of them. I always worried about the toxins I was applying to my skin as well as breathing in the fumes during application. Then I discovered that essential oils work really well to repel insects. The repellent blend contains Skimmia Laureola, Catnip Plant, Amyris Bark, African Sandalwood, Cabrueva Balsam, Wild Orange Peel, White Fir Needle, Cedarwood, Citronella Herb, Eucalyptus Leaf/Stem, Hawaiian Sandalwood, Genet Absolute, and Rose Flower essential oils in a base of Fractionated Coconut Oil. I love the fresh and citrusy smell and I’m so happy to have an insect repellent on hand which can be used safely by everyone in the family. The bottle is small, easy to carry in my purse, and it lasts for a long time.
