Do you find yourself at a point in time where you want to break an unhealthy habit?  You are not alone if you’ve been feeling like you are craving more sweets or chocolate, need that third cup of coffee, simply want to eat all the time, grab that cigarette, drink more alcohol or can’t stop playing video games simply to ‘ease stress’ and ‘unwind’. For many, stress can be a culprit in forming addictive tendencies and I think we ALL have been faced with one of those struggles at one time or another in our lives. But when those tendencies become constant, a habit that seems hard to break, start interfering with life and health, you may find yourself at a point where you are trying to break an unhealthy habit. Essential oils can become powerful tools in our repertoire supporting the process of changing habitual patterns. Find out how below.

Inhaling essential oils is a great way of supporting the process of shifting habitual patterns.

You can inhale essential oils by:

  • Diffusing them (at home, at work, in the car)
  • Use a personal aromatherapy inhaler (learn how easy it is to make your own inhaler)
  • Wear diffuser jewelry (necklace, bracelet)
  • Apply topically to pulse points on neck, inside of wrists and over heart area
  • Apply a drop to palms of hands, rub together to create a little heat, cup 6″ in front of face (do not touch eyes) and inhale for a couple of minutes

Which essential oils can help break habits?

Grapefruit and Black Pepper

Reduce cravings for food, coffee, nicotine, sweets and help to calm any feelings of anxiousness that may arise when trying to change habits. They are both powerful antioxidants, help boost serotonin levels, and great supportive tools in breaking negative patterns.

Peppermint

Powerful tool for nicotine cravings and food cravings! Immediately interrupts the craving sensation when inhaled. At the same time also uplifts moods, boosts energy and mental alertness.

Bergamot

Bergamot is the oil of courage, inner strength and self belief. This can be powerful when trying to create lasting changes and alter habitual patterns. Bergamot also helps to relieve tension and stress, and uplifts moods.

Vetiver

Wonderfully grounding and centering when feeling stressed. Powerful essential oil to help calm the mind, quiet mind chatter, and allowing to be more focused.

Consistency is Key!

Habits often form over months or years. Stay consistent with your routines. It will take time to ditch unhealthy habits but you’ll see from week to week how your essential oils can become powerful partners on your quest to changing negative patterns.
